Athletic Department of Southern Utah University Press Release

Southern Utah University is celebrating 100 years of football activity at the school and in doing so, the athletic department has compiled a list of the top 100 football players. Included in the list of 100 are two former Carbon High School players, Lane Martino and John Borla.

Martino was a defensive lineman for SUU in the late 1970’s and earned Little All-American recognition for his play. He holds the SUU record for quarterback sacks.

Borla was a defensive back during the same period of time and still holds the school record for single season interceptions and is tied for career interceptions. Both Martino and Borla were all-conference selections during their playing days at SUU.

During the present football season, Southern Utah University is conducting a poll among the 100 players in selecting the school’s all-century team. Carbon area football fans may vote for the former Carbon players at www.facebook.com/suuthunderbirds/app
