The annual Utah Foster Care foster parent appreciation event took place once more this year on Thursday evening. During this special event, two local foster parents were singled out to be honored.

The first foster parent that was presented for honoring and recognition was Price resident Rodney Jackson. Jackson was awarded the Foster Father of the Year. Generally, this award is presented on Father’s Day weekend and takes place in Salt Lake City. However, Jackson had been away at a family reunion at that time. As a result, Jackson was presented the award at the event and was thanked for his dedication and involvement with the teenage boys that are taken into his home.

Also honored at the appreciation event was Orangeville resident Karen Sitterud, who was recognized for over 30 years of service as a foster mother. In that time, Sitterud has welcomed over 100 children into her home. Even now, she continues to make a difference in the lives of the children in Carbon and Emery counties who need love and a family during difficult times.
