The Emery Spartans continued their efforts in the state playoffs in the one-loss bracket on Thursday. The team notched two wins on the day, coming out on top of Parowan and Grand.
In the first game of the day, the Spartans rallied from an early 8-2 deficit to knock Parowan out of the the one-loss bracket. Parowan went up early, scoring five runs in the first and three in the second. Emery answered with two runs of its own in the first and four in the second. The Spartans went up for good after bringing home three runners in the fourth and two in the fifth. Dillon Wilstead and Tristen Deabenderfer each scored doubles, notching one and two, respectively. Bryce Dugmore was credited with the win on the mound.
Next up for the Spartans was a matchup against Grand. Emery swept past the Red Devils, 11-3. The team kicked off its scoring in the second, earning five runs, and never looked back. Ridge Nielson hit a triple in the game and Tyson Roper and Deabenderfer each notched a double apiece. Dugmore pitched the winning game.
The wins advance the Spartans to a matchup against Delta at 9:30 a.m. on Friday.
