On Thursday, the Spartans were back in action to face the Cougars. Union came into the game shooting 29% from the floor as a team, but the Christmas season extended for the Cougars, who finished the game converting 49 percent of their shots. The huge uptick kept the game close as the Spartans only led by one at the break. The Cougars then took the lead in the third quarter and were up by two heading into the fourth.
Emery shot the ball extremely well from behind the arc (8-15, 53%), but really struggled on two-point attempts (9-34, 26%). It was a fight all the way until the end, but Emery was unable to pull it out and lost a tough one 53-51.
Tambrie Tuttle had an excellent game, going 5-7 from the field with 17 points and five rebounds. Baylee Jacobson added another 12 points and four steals. However, the Spartans were outdone by senior Kinslee Drake, who finished 14-18 from the floor with 31 points and 10 rebounds.
Emery will need to have a short memory as the Spartans (10-3) will tip off their region schedule at Richfield (11-2) this Thursday.
