Location: Huntington Canyon and Gentry Mountain, 15 miles NW of Huntington, Utah

Cause:В  Dry Lightning

Size:  20,300 acres (today’s infrared flight)

Property threatened:В  Historical USFS Guard Station and some outlying communities

Number of personnel: 1 Type-2 hand crew, 12 Smoke Jumpers

Equipment: 2 Type-3 engines, 1 Type-4 engine, 1 Type-6 engine

Fire Activity:

After the second day of the fire, Initial Attack Type-4 Incident Commander Dirk Rogers turned over the fire at 6:00 a.m this morning to Shawn Jaca with the Color Country Type-3 Incident Command Team. Extreme fire behavior and long-range spotting occurred overnight, with the fire perimeter estimated to have grown 14,500 acres in one day. В Extreme drought conditions, bark-beetle-killed trees, strong gusty and unpredictable winds are still driving the fire.

Significant Events:

Personnel worked for a second night, providing successful structure protection for the Historical USFS Guard Station.В  Crews secured utility lines and gas lines within the fire perimeter.

Closures/Evacuations/Advisories:

State Highway 31 from Fairview to Huntington, State Highway 96 from SR-6 to SR-284, Millers Flat Road from Scad Valley to SR-31. Also various Forest Roads within the fire area.

General Information:

A Type-2 Incident Management Team has been ordered.В  The Incident Command Post is located the Canyon View Junior High School in Huntington, Utah.В В  The fire is currently burning on lands administered by the Manti-LaSal National Forest Ferron-Price Ranger District, Bureau of Land Management Price District, StateВ  of Utah, and some private lands.
