The USU Eastern baseball team honored several law enforcement agencies before the first pitch in Saturday’s doubleheader against Western State Colorado.

The team honored the Carbon County Sheriff’s Department, Carbon and Emery County Emergency Services, Utah Highway Patrol, Wellington City Police, Emery County Sheriff’s Department and Price City Police for their service and dedication.

Head coach Scott Madsen said this was something the entire team stood behind.

“We just want them to know how much we as a team appreciate them,” Madsen said. “They take care of the field and our players and rarely get the recognition they deserve for what they do.”

Carbon County Deputy Isaiah Palmer sang the national anthem before the Golden Eagles presented the officers with an autographed baseball signed by the USU Eastern team.

What followed the ceremony was one for the books. The Golden Eagles threw a perfect game, something coach Madsen had not seen before.

“That’s the first perfect game I’ve ever seen with my own eyes,” Madsen said. “It just added to what started out as a pretty awesome day.”
