A suicide prevention training seminar was hosted at USU Eastern on Wednesday. Four Corners Mental Health received funding for the QPR training in Carbon County.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade and Refer. They are three simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a person from suicide. People trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help save thousands of lives each year. Similarly, those trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade and refer someone to help.

Before the training, there were just two people who had received QPR training in the area. After the class, there are an additional 12.

The following organizations were in attendance for the QPR training: Juvenile Justice System, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Price City, SE Utah Health Department, Department of Child & Family Services, USU Eastern and Four Corners Mental Health.

Suicide prevention is violence prevention.
