The USU Eastern men’s soccer team played on their home field Aug. 15 against the Western Wyoming Community College Mustangs. This was their second scrimmage of the year, the first being the Blue and White scrimmage held on Aug. 10.

“I am very proud of the effort that I have received from the players in the first week and a half of training. For the most part, they have worked very hard,” said coach Jared Woodhouse.

Being that it was the first scrimmage against another opponent, the team had a rocky start. Luckily, they were able to keep the score tied to 0-0. The Eagles were able to keep the other team from scoring with great defense.

“Our defense only allowed one true shot on goal and we had a great save from the goal keeper,” said Woodhouse. “A great positive that came from the game was freshman Parker Huff returned from his mission only in the end of July and I expected him to struggle some like other returned missionaries have before, but he picked up right where he left off.”

Men’s soccer will compete in six preseason games before they begin SWAC play. These games will be against Gillette College (Aug. 22, Gillette, WY), Sheridan College (Aug. 24, Sheridan, WY), Alan Hancock College (Aug. 29, Henderson, NV), Victor Valley College (Aug. 31, Henderson, NV), and a scrimmage at home on Sept. 7 against Moizer SC and USA. The Eagles’ first conference game will be on Sept. 12 against Salt Lake Community College.
