The USU Eastern men’s soccer team ended their 2014 season on Friday against Trinidad State Junior College, the eighth ranked team in the country. Despite a tough battle, the Eagles fell 1-0 in the semifinals of the Region 9 tournament in Powell, Wyo.

Both teams battled throughout the game, refusing to give up points. Finally, in the 83rd minute of the matchup, a foul against the Eagles in the box allowed Trinidad a penalty kick. The opposing team netted the ball, bumping them up to 1-0 to end the game. The win put Trinidad 18-1-1 on the season.

“As coaches, we couldn’t be more proud of how the team performed,” coaches shared on the USU Eastern Soccer Team Facebook page. “They deserved to win and go to district play. We believe that next year we will be there playing in the district semifinal with a shot to go to nationals. If our men’s team focuses like they did at the end of the season all the way through next season, we will be very hard to beat.”

The women’s team (14-2-2) will now prepare for their own regional semifinal game against Laramie (12-4-1) on Friday, Nov. 7 at Five Star Stadium in Thornton, Colo.
