USU Eastern Press Release
Former USU Eastern forward Petr Ropek signed a letter of intent with Menlo College on Friday.
Ropek, who averaged 5.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game in 2017-18, will continue his playing career at the NAIA school located in Menlo, Calif. near the Bay Area.
The Czech Republic native played one season with the Eagles and helped the team reach the Region XVIII Tournament semifinals in March.
“I think Petr will make an immediate impact for Menlo at the power forward position,” said USU Eastern head coach Vando Becheli. “He is a versatile big man who can shoot threes and also play down low.”
Before arriving at USU Eastern, Ropek played one year at ASA College in Brooklyn, New York.
“I am proud of Petr because he worked so hard in the offseason and then all that work paid off with a scholarship from Menlo,” said Becheli.
Ropek is the fourth member of the 2017-18 USU Eastern men’s basketball team to sign with four-year institutions with potentially more on the way. The other three players include Rafael Monteiro (Augusta University), Milan Surlic’ (University of Sioux Falls) and Nico Rojas (Florida National).
