PRICE, UTAH – The Utah State Eastern men’s soccer team defeated Grand Canyon Club 7-0 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
USU Eastern rebounded from a 2-0 loss on Thursday in Las Vegas to earn their second win of the season.
The offense for USU Eastern exploded against Grand Canyon with goals coming from six different players. Leading Eastern in scoring was sophomore Xavier Smith, who finished the game with two goals. The other goals scored came from Frank Debry, Carlos Heredia, Jaysten Flowers, Jae Partridge, and Tyler Malan.
Freshman Jojea Kwizera contributed to the scoring efforts with a team-high three assists. Guillermo Hernandez and Dylan Barbosa also had assists in the win for USU Eastern.
Head coach Ammon Bennett said after the game that his team did well against the club team but there is still things that need to be worked on.
“We looked a little bit lifeless. We missed several very easy opportunities that could have made the game 10-15 to nothing, just didn’t make the plays quite as well as we needed to early on.” said Bennett. “We still have some spacing issues and thought issues but overall we walked away with 7-0 win.”
Next weekend, Eastern travels back to Las Vegas for their first conferences games of the 2017 season. They will take on the College of Southern Nevada on both Friday and Saturday in hopes of defeating CSN for the first time ever in Las Vegas.
