USUE Softball Competes in Great Western Shootout

Game 1, L 9-7
Feb. 4 vs South Mountain Community College

Eastern strung together 11 hits in game one of the Great Western Shootout, including multiple hits from Mackenzie Wright (Fr), Ally Oyanguren (So) and Marisa Bowman (So). Emma Marchant was in the circle through 6.1 innings, allowing eight hits and nine runs, striking out seven. Oakley Giacoletto (Fr) came in to finish the game. Wright (Fr) led the game, going 3-3 at the plate.

Game 2, W 8-4
Feb 4. vs Arizona Western

Eagles rebounded and defeated Arizona Western 8-4 in game two. Eastern opened the game in the second inning by scoring one. In the third inning, freshman Sydney Smith had a 2RBI double on the first pitch of her at bat and Maci Harrop (So) had an RBI single to contribute to the inning. In the sixth inning, Eastern put up three runs with big RBIs from Zoey Rose (Fr) and Malorie Luck (So). Sydney Smith earned the win, allowing four runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Rose (Fr) and Wright (Fr) both collected multiple hits for the Eagles. Zoey Rose led at the plate, going 3-4.

Game 3, L 14-2
Feb. 5 vs Yavapai

Eastern fell behind early in game three, while Yavapai jumped ahead in the first with a five-run inning. Madie Luck (So) started in the circle through four, allowing 10 hits and 10 runs, striking out one. Sydney Smith (Fr) came in to finish the game. Yavapai had another big inning in the fifth, scoring five runs. Mackenzie Wright led the Eagles at the plate, going 2-2.

Game 4, L 9-3
Feb. 5 vs Eastern Arizona

The Lady Eagles dropped game four to Eastern Arizona. Utah State Eastern took the lead in the third inning, scoring three runs with Marisa Bowman (So) hitting a three-run homerun. Eastern Arizona strung together five runs in the fourth inning. The Eagles did not produce any more runs in the game, but Eastern Arizona gathered three more runs in the sixth inning. Madie Luck (So) led at the plate, going 2-3.

Game 5, L 8-7
Feb. 5 vs Central Arizona

In game five, Eastern stayed in the game until the end, but Central Arizona pulled away late, winning 8-7. The game was tied at five going into the bottom of the sixth. Emma Marchant (So) was in the circle for the Eagles through six innings, allowing seven runs on 13 hits with eight strikeouts. Marisa Bowman launched a two-run homerun in the third inning. Thirteen hits were gathered from the Eagles, with multiples from Marisa Bowman (So), Quaylee Smuin (Fr), Skyler Lauver (So) and Mackenzie Wright (Fr).

March 4 kicks off conference play against Salt Lake Community College, including games at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Another double header will take place the following day at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
