PRICE, UTAH – Utah State Eastern Women’s Soccer coach Ammon Bennett announced Monday his team’s captains for the 2017 season.

Sophomores Shyann Jones, Kori JorgensenTaryn Pritchett and Melanie Graves have been named captains of this year’s women’s soccer team.

“Each of these young ladies brings qualities to the program that are so important to the team. Everyone on the team is important and these captains recognize this, this is one of the best qualities that each of these young ladies has,” Bennett said.

Graves returns for her sophomore year after a strong 2016 season where she started 10 games for the Eagles with a game-winning goal against Western Wyoming.

“(Graves) is one the hardest working players on the team who keeps herself fit, she was the winner of the off season beep test,” Bennett said.

After starting 13 games in goal for the Eagles, Jones returns to build off of a great freshman season. Jones ranked nationally in the top 10 in goals allowed and top 25 in save percentage in 2016.

“Shyann brings great work ethic and desire, she has a big voice and will help the young players work hard,” Bennett said.

During the 2016 season, Pritchett scored three goals and six points while making 14 starts for the Eagles as a center back. Bennett believes Pritchett will help her teammates this coming fall by being a competitive and vocal leader.

“She is a vocal leader with great soccer sense and knowledge, a true competitor and leader who won’t be afraid to challenge teammates to be the best they can be.” Bennett said.

Jorgensen spent most of the 2016 as a forward/wing for the Eagles. She scored three goals on 15 shots with 1 assist last season.

“Kori is always concerned about the wellbeing of her team and friends. She brings great passion and compassion to the team,”Bennett said.

Last season the Eagles finished the year 13-3-3 overall and lost in the conference semifinals to Salt Lake Community College.

The Eagles also reached as a high as 16 in the NJCAA National Rankings.

Bennett and the Eagles will open up training camp on August 7 with their first scrimmage opportunity on August 12 against Treasure Valley Community College.
