USU Eastern Press Release
PRICE – Utah State Eastern women’s soccer lost to the 14-ranked Salt Lake Community College Bruins 1-0 at home on Friday.
Friday’s game was a little bit different then the previous two matches in Salt Lake City earlier this season where the Eagles lost both games by a combined score of 5-1.
“It was a lot different then up there because it was closer to the end of the season and we did a really good job. We played better then what the score showed,” said USU Eastern sophomore Sylvie Call.
The Bruins would outshoot the Eagles 10-2 in the first half with Mya Massey picking up six saves for USU Eastern.
In the 20′ minute, Salt Lake scored off a rebound from the hands of Massey to take the 1-0 lead.
“Unfortunately, we made one mistake, which led to an easy goal for them. In all reality, it was a 0-0 game,” said USU Eastern head coach Ammon Bennett.
During the second half of play, the Eagles stepped up defensively, preventing the Bruins from having more opportunities to score.
“We came out and gave it all we had and the way we possessed changed the game for us,” said Call.
Offensively for USU Eastern, they got a couple good chances at tying the game but fellshort.
“It was really close but if we played as good as we did at the end in the beginning and throughout the game, I think things would have been different,” said Call.
In the final seconds of the game, freshman Claire Boman almost had a header go in but just missed by a few inches.
“It was a great game but we just had that one mistake that gave them the point,” said Bennett.
Friday’s loss completes the Eagles’ conference schedule as they finish with a 1-7-1 record. Five of their conference losses were by only one goal.
They will finish off their regular season on Saturday with a non-conference game against Colorado Mesa University Club at noon. At halftime of Saturday’s game, they will honor the sophomores on this year’s team.
The Eagles will look to finish their non-conference schedule undefeated with a win on Saturday.
