USUE’s Namdar Signs with Hawaii Pacific

Former USU Eastern guard Neema Namdar signed a letter of intent to continue his collegiate career at Hawai’i-Pacific.

The Sandy, Utah native will head to the island of Oahu later this month and will have two years of eligibility left.

“Hawai’i-Pacific is a top Division II program in the nation. They play a fast pace offense that fits me as a player. They send guys professional every year as well,” said Namdar.

Namdar’s new team plays in the PacWest conference,  which is home to universities in Hawaii and California.

In his lone season with USU Eastern, Namdar averaged 11.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He also led the Eagles in three point shooting with 44.9 percent and broke the school record for most three-point shots made in game with 10 against Salt Lake on Jan. 6.

“Neema is a great young man who really can shoot the ball not just from the three-point line, but he can do that very deep and with high percentage of makes. He is a ferocious competitor, hard worker and hates-to-lose type of player,” said USU Eastern Head Coach Vando Becheli.

Before arriving at USU Eastern, Namdar played his freshman season at Southern Utah. Namdar said playing one year at USU Eastern helped him improved his game and compete against some of the best basketball talent in the country.

“USU Eastern was a good place for me on and off that court. I am thankful for the opportunity it gave me to develop and showcase what I can do against top programs in the best junior college conference in the country,” said Namdar.

With his signing, that brings the total of players from the 2017-18 USU Eastern men’s basketball team to sign with four-year schools to six.

In 2017-18, USU Eastern went 18-13 overall and advanced to the Region XVIII Tournament semifinals, where the team lost to eventual National Runner-up College of Southern Idaho.
