Utah State University recently took its aviation technology summer camp on the road, bringing it to Price City’s airport. This is the first traveling aviation summer camp that USU has presented.
The camp gave students a chance to learn more about aviation and the technology used for flight programs. Two instructor pilots were in attendance to showcase aviation to youth, teaching them about science technology engineering and the math that goes into flights.
Eight students joined the program, which was a great turnout for the first year. These students were taught how to go over a flight plan, including who would be on the flight, the airspace and highways of the sky and more.
Kaden Allred, a senior at Emery High School this year, attended the summer camp. According to Allred, his dream is to be an aerospace engineer. He had never before been in an airplane and heard about this opportunity and decided it was for him. Allred stated that he learned a lot about aerospace technology and flight that he had not known before.
The highlight for Allred, along with many of the others in the program, was the chance to participate in the flying of an airplane. Students were taken into the sky with an instructor pilot, where they were able to witness first-hand all that goes into controlling an airplane.
Due to a generous donation from Skywest, USU was able to keep the cost of the program to $100 per participant. The college also wanted to thank USU Eastern for its assistance in providing meals to the students during the summer camp.
