The Utah Youth Symphony and the Utah Youth Philharmonic Orchestras will be performing in Helper on Saturday, April 14, at the Rio Theatre at 6 p.m. The concert is presented by “The Helper Project” and sponsored by Zions Bank. As Utah’s first youth symphony, founded in 1957, Utah Youth Orchestras have nurtured thousands of talented musicians ages 12-21 with coaching and development by the area’s finest professional conductors and musicians.

The orchestras are conducted Barbara Ann Scowcroft. Barbara has been the Music Director and Conductor of the Youth Orchestras since 1986 and also served as the Music Director and Conductor of the World Youth Orchestra during the 2002 Winter Olympics. She has played in the first violin section of the Utah Symphony since 1982. She is also an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Utah and holds the distinction of being the first woman conductor of the Salt Lake Symphony.

Anne Morgan-Jespersen, Board Chair of The Helper Project, said, “We are extremely fortunate to have these outstanding talents performing in Helper. We are also grateful to Zions Bank for underwriting the event. Zions Bank has been extremely supportive of The Helper Project’s mission of fostering the revitalization, beautification and cultural enhancement of Helper City.”
