Wayne E Erickson, 72, of Orem Utah, passed away in his home April 1, 2019. Butch was the son of Wayne H and Gladys Tanner Erickson, born November 20, 1946. Butch was married to his sweetheart Laurie Ann Hall for 34 years, and their marriage was sealed in the Monticello Temple. In his youth he served a 2-year mission to Western Canada, held many callings for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout his life, including being an ordinance worker in the Monticello Temple.

Butch was a long time music educator, well loved by students over three generations. He loved fly fishing, Jeeping, hunting, and most of all his family. He was father of 9 children, grandfather to 18, and great-grandfather to 6.

He made a huge impact on generations of music educators. Butch taught at Snow College, Monticello High School, Emery High School, Provo High School, Utah Valley University, and Brigham Young University.  He was a past-president and Hall of Fame inductee of the Utah Music Educators Association, and the College Band Director’s National Association Southwest Division, an inductee in the Utah Bandmasters Hall of Fame, and a frequent and admired adjudicator and guest conductor.

Butch leaves a legacy few can boast of. His humble and open nature was endearing to everyone who met him. His matter-of-fact attitude and brilliance offered guidance to his students, his family, and members of his church. He was never afraid to tell you exactly what he thought, and what he thought was always best. He was confident and humble, funny and serene. He will be missed.

Butch is survived by his beloved wife, Laurie; his children Tamera Marie [William] Anderson; Wendy Lee [John] Baker; Elisa Christine [Matthew] Janson; David Orrin [Jillian] Erickson; Jacob Robby [Bronte] Erickson; Erik Carl Erickson; and Lindsay Deanne [Jake] Sorensen.
