The Pirates were outmatched by visiting Wayne on Tuesday in Green River as the hosting team took a 72-54 loss in Region 19.
Green River’s smallest output of the night was in the first quarter, giving the Pirates a slow start and leaving them trailing 17-11 going into the second. The Pirates took it up a notch in the second, scoring 14, but gave up 18 points to the visiting team to trail 35-25 at the half.
Green River outmatched Wayne in the third, winning the quarter 16-15, but gave up a game high 22 points to Wayne in the final quarter to take the loss.
Axel Anguiano led the Pirates with 20 points. Trey Vetere was also in double digits with 15 points, including three buckets from downtown. Dawson Anderson added 11 points for the Green River squad.
Green River (4-9, 2-2 Region 19) will look to rebound as the team travels to Whitehorse (0-3, 0-3 Region 19) on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
