At the regularly scheduled Wellington City Council meeting on Wednesday evening, a new member was appointed a position on the council.
Three candidates were considered for the position. Bethany Perea, Gary Motte and Gary Rich all stood before the council and made a statement about their hopeful position on the council.
Following the statements made by the candidates, Mayor Joan Powell and the city’s council members went into a closed session to discuss their options and appoint a new member. After special consideration, Rich was appointed to be the next council member at this time.
“This was not an easy decision,” stated Mayor Powell. “We have people that know this town inside and out and we tossed the decision back and forth.” Rich stood after his appointment, thanking the council for the position and encouraging the others to run again.
Rich will be sworn in to his position at the next Wellington City Council meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
