Wellington City Press Release

As of Monday, the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has added some new signs on the west end of Wellington City.

Since Highway 6 between Wellington and Price was widened several years ago, Wellington City and the Wellington Police Department have been working with UDOT to create a slow down area for those traveling east, entering Wellington City. On Monday, that finally became a reality.

In the interest of safety for our community, there is now a slow down zone where the speed limit drops from 60 miles per hour, to 50 miles per hour, then to 40 miles per hour.

Previously, the speed limit went from 60 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour with only three signs warning of the speed change. Now, when you travel east bound into Wellington City, the speed limit drops from 60 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour. You will travel a short distance in the 50 mile per hour zone, then the speed limit drops to 40 miles per hour. The 40 mile per hour zone has not changed and the area where the speed lowers to 50 miles per hour is approximately 1/4 mile before the 40 mile per zone, thus giving you enough time to slow down before entering the 40 mile per hour zone.

If you are traveling west bound out of Wellington, the speed zone is just the opposite. It increases to 50 miles per hour for a short period, then to 60 miles per hour. This is also done in hopes drivers will not attempt to speed up to 60 miles per hour or higher before leaving the 40 mile per hour zone.

This speed change was done in a hope to slow vehicles down and hopefully create a safer traffic flow for vehicles entering and exiting Wellington City.

With the warmer temperatures upon us, we would like to remind everyone to watch there speed and be more attentive when driving.
