Ten Wellington Elementary fifth grade students took part in a spelling bee like competition on Thursday in hopes of being named the first-place winner.
The competition, hosted by the local chapter of the Lions Club International, was the school’s annual constitution bee where those who qualify are quizzed on a variety of topics stemming from the nation’s constitution.
After over ten rounds of competition, December Jensen was named as the first-place winner and recipient of a $50 cash prize. Kloe Austin took second and walked away with $30 while Tadryn Hensley wrapped up the competition with third and a prize of $20.
Students receive a packet about the constitution from the Lions Club International at the beginning of the year free of charge. The club then travels to the different elementary schools in the area to host the competitions.
