Needing a win Friday night to break a first place tie with North Sevier, the Emery Spartans got the best from senior shooting guard Dillon Wistead, and more.

Not only did Emery get the much-needed win in overtime, 72-69, Wilstead poured in a career-high 35 points in a herculean effort to help the Spartans overtake North Sevier for Region 15’s top spot.

The Spartans were in the driver’s seat, leading by 10 entering the final quarter of play. The Wolves rallied during the period to force overtime. Emery outscored its opponent in the extra frame, 13-10, to steal the win.

Tai Justice nailed four threes in the game en route to 17 points. No other player for the Spartans tallied more than six points. As a team, Emery nailed nine three pointers.

Emery (11-6, 4-1 Region 15) will play four of its final five games on the road to end the regular season. The Spartans will travel to San Juan (6-9, 2-2 Region 15) on Wednesday.
