Women of the community came together to talk about goals and how to achieve them on Thursday evening. “Setting and Pursuing Goals” was the theme of the activity, which took place at the Southeast Utah Health Department.
The goal of the activity was for women to imagine and set goals that were truly achievable, something they can try to accomplish each day. During the event, those in attendance made picture collages of what they want in their life, which material items, financial stability and mental aspects. One of the women cut out the words “Joy at Home” for her collage board.
The event was part of the group Let’s Talk About It, which aims to provide a safe, encouraging environment for local women. Past events for the group have included classes and a wide range of speakers.
In the past, Let’s Talk About It has featured speakers on topics such as grief and change as well as a recent class on how to manage stress. Most of the women present at the event expressed how much they appreciate the evenings they’ve spent trying to better themselves.
There was also a comment about how these women have to form a “community connection” where attendees meet people and know who they are if they see them outside of the group. It acts as a safe place for them to talk about certain topics that will stay within the boundaries of those who were present. Group leaders take pride in the group being that safe space with a sisterhood of “trust and loyalty” brewing between the women who keep in touch and those who are newcomers to each event.
There will be another event on Thursday, April 4, which will be the end of this series. There is discussion on having quarterly events throughout the year for a few weeks at a time, but nothing has been solidified.
