In November’s Castle Dale City Council meeting, fire chief Nosh Arrien and enforcement officer J.J. Manning were given assignments by the council to visit the unkept and vacant lots and premises within the city to determine how the city could best alleviate these problems areas. In December’s meeting, both reported to the Castle Dale City Council on the action that has been taken and what still needs to be done.
Manning indicated that he has identified 26 lots that have a code violation. He has spoke with six owners and three have already began to comply while the other three have requested extensions of 60 to 90 days. Written warnings have been issued to others and Manning is attempting to contact the remaining owners.
Castle Dale City Mayor Dan Van Wagoner instructed Manning to contact the city hall and those addresses can be obtained through the county recorder’s office. Manning is continuing to pursue the objectives of cleanup.
Arrien has also been surveying the offensive lots and premises in the city. He recommends that the fire code be updated in order to assist in this matter. During the meeting, Arrien distributed pages from the International Fire Code of 2018 to the council with his suggestions. The council was asked to study these and be ready to work on a new fire code during January’s meeting. Arrien addressed defensible space of personal property and public health issues of vacant lots and premises. The council was also asked to consider the penalties for the violation of the ordinance, which could be the same as the beautification violations or different.
Councilman Jordan Leonard and Mayor Van Wagoner said they will continue to work with these men to correct the violations and make the city a better place to live.
