Wrestlers Compete at Junior High and Middle School State Competition

Carbon, Grand and Emery counties were represented at the recent 1A, 2A and 3A state tournament for junior high and middle school wrestling.

Emery took ninth in the middle school category with Grand coming up with 14th. Carbon led the home-town athletes in the junior high category finishing 12th while Emery settled for 13th.

Carbon’s Blake Grundy, 210+ lbs, PJ Howa, 138 lbs, and Chanse Pendergrass, 96 lbs, scored third place finishes in the junior high category.

Isaac Robinson, Mckaden Whiteleather, Bodie Salas, Gaven Guymon, Brandon Udovich, Joshua Andersen, Kaylob Mitchell, Christopher Grant, Dillion Thomas and Cayleb Marshall also wrestled for Carbon at the event.

Weighing in at 165, Thomas McElprang took the sole first for Emery, competing in the middle school category. Jess Christiansen, 73 lbs, Byron Christiansen, 80 lbs, and Adain Morotensen, 128 lbs, walked away with second-place finishes for Emery in the junior high competition.

Monty Christiansen took third, weighing in at 61 and competing in the middle school category, while Sid Christiansen also placed third in the junior high competition at 70 lbs.

Mason Stilson, Merritt Mecareillo and Easton Thornely also competed for Emery.

Grand also scored a first from the event, courtesy of Landon Moralez, 64 lbs, who competed in the middle school category. Fellow Grand representative Zach Span, weighing in at 145, managed a third in the junior high competition.

Trenton Nelson, Jaymmin Hester, Wade Bedke and Jimmie Johnson also competed for Grand.

Carbon had 33 wrestlers attend while Emery and Grand had 18 and 10, respectively.
