The Emery High School football team got off to an ideal start by pounding Richfield 27-0 Friday night in Castle Dale.

Emery dominated the contest in the trenches and received a huge boost from a young defensive secondary that shutdown Richfield’s aerial attack.

Junior quarterback Spencer Labrum hooked up with junior wide out David Dyer for touchdowns of 26 and 50 yards.

Senior running back Jesse Winn and sophomore Dominic Rondinelli had touchdown runs of 10 and 41 yards, respectively. Rondinelli provided a huge spark out of the backfield with his speed and agility.

Sophomore corner Bailey Faimalo made an outstanding play to come up with Emery’s first interception of the season.

Dyer and Labrum opened up the scoring early in the second quarter with the 26-yard score. In a departure from recent seasons, Emery looked confident in the kicking game as Cory Cox drove home the extra point.

Dyer and Labrum hooked up again early in the third quarter while Jesse Winn’s jaunt put the game nearly out of reach.

Rondinelli sealed the deal win his 41-yard scamper midway through the fourth.

Emery hosts Uintah Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ETV channel 10.
