Michelle Simmons hosted a small class on chicken showmanship in Green River on Wednesday.
The class was mainly targeted toward children ages 8-18 but all ages were welcome to attend and learn. The demonstrations provided information on how to properly care for a chicken during a competition and on how to present a chicken to a judge.
Kids were instructed on bathing, drying and how to hold your chicken so it does not fly away or become scared. “You want to keep your chicken a calm as possible,” explained Simmons.
Each child was given an opportunity to test their knowledge by removing a chicken from a cage and then putting it back in the cage.
Children who are going to be showing chickens in contests during Melon Days were encouraged to attend.
