During the Price City Council meeting on Wednesday evening, a proclamation was approved to honor the local American Legion. July 19, 2019 will officially be designated as American Legion Centennial Day in Price.
This year, the American Legion is celebrating 100 years of service across the nation. “These organizations were originally formed back in 1919 after World War I,” the local branch shared earlier this year. “Both the American Legion and Auxiliary have made great strides over the past to advocate for veterans’ rights and services and help our hospitalized veterans, active-duty military members and their families.”
The local American Legion Post 3 and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 3 were established in 1919. During the decade of the 1920s, both the American Legion and the Auxiliary instituted national programs that still benefit members of the community today, like the Poppy Program, which raises money for disabled and hospitalized veterans.
“Keeping our veterans and their needs at the fore-front while assisting in programming for our active-duty military members, their families, our youth and our communities,” the local American Legion shared. “Instilling patriotism, love of county and respect of the American Flag, while serving our veterans who secured our many freedoms and very way of life. Here’s to the next 100 years!”
A picnic will be hosted in honor of the centennial on Aug. 3 at Memorial Park at 12 p.m. The council members expressed their gratitude of the American Legion in Price City and presented members with a framed proclamation.
