The recipient of the 2019 Mike Ballard Memorial Fundraiser was recently announced as Janell Nelson and her family.
The annual Mike Ballard Memorial Fundraiser and Golf Tournament is hosted annually in Carbon County to benefit one local person or family that has fallen on hard times. On Jan. 11, Nelson lost her husband, JR, as a result of an automobile accident. She is now raising their three children, Claire, Bella and Gavin. Janell and her children will directly benefit from the proceeds garnered during the fundraiser.
This year’s tournament will take place on June 1 at the Carbon County Events Center as well as the Carbon Country Club Golf Course. As usual, the event will be sponsored by county employees and will take place off of the clock, meaning that there will be no tax dollars used as a result.
Though the event began as a golf tournament and barbecue, it has since grown into something much larger. With fees of $160 per team, not including green and cart fees, the tournament is a four-man scramble that will begin with a shotgun start.
Following the golfing portion of the day, those that participated, along with their families and community members, will travel to the events center where dinner will be catered. Dinner will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m.
Live entertainment will also be featured, provided by the band Natural Causes. This band features KUTV 2’s Mark Koelbel on the drums. The band will go on stage beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Those that wish to register a team or sponsor the event by purchasing a hole, donating prizes or contributing a monetary donation may do so by contacting Carbon County Recreation at (435) 636-3702 or Carbon County Human Resources Director Rose Barnes at (435) 636-3290.
