As the district spelling bee, slated for Feb. 15, steadily approaches, local schools are gearing up for the big event by hosting their own school-wide spelling bees to determine which students will go on to compete at the higher level.
Bruin Point Elementary school is no exception, having recently hosted its competition with great success.
The winners of the spelling bee were Jersey Wayman of fifth grade in first place, Tiana Dickerson, also in fifth grade, secured second place and Marieelena Valdez-Garcia of fourth grade came in third. The school would like to thank Sunnyside Co-Generation for donating the prize money of $75, $50 and $25, respectively.
The district spelling bee will be hosted at Mont Harmon Middle School and will begin at 10 a.m. on Feb. 15.
