Utah moved up six places to take second in CNBC’s annual study “America’s Top States for Business.” The 2012 study lauds Utah’s strong workforce, effective transportation, and low cost of doing business. Governor Gary R. Herbert issued the following statement:

After weeks of tirelessly fighting wildfires to protect the lives and property of our residents, this is great news. This is no surprise to Utah, again confirming that reasonable regulation, low taxes, and an unparalleled workforce are the best components to promote economic growth. We achieve this growth by creating the best conditions for the free market to do what it does best. Other states and the country as a whole are catching on – when it comes to business growth and economic opportunity, Utah does it right.

States were rated in 10 different categories including workforce, qualify of life, transportation, and business friendliness. The number one state on CNBC’s ranking has yet to be announced.

This announcement adds to Utah’s expansive list of accolades, including being the #1 state for business according to Forbes Magazine, and the #1 best managed state in the nation according to The Pew Center on the States.
