Governor Gary R. Herbert today issued the following statement urging caution and adherence to fireworks restrictions as Utahns celebrate Pioneer Day:
If you are anywhere outside of an incorporated city – except for one or two exceptions in Salt Lake County – you cannot use fireworks. Each city is responsible for fireworks restrictions within city limits.
This ban is still in full force for Pioneer Day, and will remain in effect until conditions warrant otherwise.
We want our citizens to celebrate our pioneer heritage – but we want celebrations involving fireworks to occur only in safe locations.
Recent rains and cooler temperatures have reduced severity of fire behavior, but vegetation dries extremely quickly. The wildfire danger is still very real.
I urge all Utahns to adhere to these guidelines and enjoy our Pioneer Day celebrations in a safe, responsible manner.
