They Emery Lady Spartans participated in the 3A/2A March Warm-Up in St. George over the weekend. In five games, Emery was only able to tally 14 total runs, nine of which came in just one game.
Emery kicked off the tournament against Aquinas, Calif. on Friday. The Lady Spartans failed to score in the 14-0 drubbing in the four-inning game. Taylor Payne took the loss. They then turned around and were upended by South Summit 16-5 in five innings. Ashton Bell and Kambrie Hinkins both homered in the game. Bell also was credited with the loss on the mound. South Summit scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule. Emery had eight errors in the game. In Friday’s nightcap, Emery took on Juab, who beat Emery back on March 7, 18-0. The Wasps again held the Lady Spartans scoreless, this time by an 11-0 mark. Emery managed just four hits in the game.
Wasatch was next up for Emery on Saturday morning. The Lady Spartans’ offensive woes continued as they again failed to score for the second consecutive game and were sent away with another 11-0 loss. Emery could muster just three hits in the game. The Lady Spartans jumped out early on their final opponent, Millard, scoring eight of their 10 runs in the first two innings en route to their only win of the weekend, 10-9. Jacie Huntington and Payne each had two hits in the game. Huntington had a game-high two RBIs.
Emery (3-7, 1-0 Region 15) will travel to Grand (1-4, 0-1 Region 15) on Tuesday. The Lady Spartans tripped up the Red Devils 10-9 on March 17.
