Explosion in 9-Mile Canyon*UPDATED*

An explosion at a natural gas compression station in Nine Mile Canyon this morning has left two men injured.

The explosionВ occurredВ at approximately 8:50 a.m. Carbon County dispatch was notified at approximately 10:30 a.m. and sent fire crews from all over Carbon County to the site in the Dry Canyon area near milepost 43.

Carbon County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Hreinson confirmed the injuries of two men, aged 62 and “approximately 28.” A medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the injured men. The names of the injured men have yet to be released.

The road was closed to thru traffic between mileposts 41 and 42 except for emergency vehicles.

The natural gas compression station is owned and operated by the Bill Barrett Corporation out of Denver, Colo.

Hreinson also confirmed flames were nearly extinguished by 12:30 p.m.

No information has been released regarding the nature and cause of the explosion.
