Carbon, Emery, Green River and a host of other teams, including a number from various middle schools, took part in the Carbon Invitational at the Carbon Country Club on Wednesday afternoon. Nine complete teams took to the course for the event.
After the results were tallied, the Carbon girl’s team ran away with the overall top spot. Emery and Carbon boy’s teams came in third and fourth, respectively. Emery girls did not field a complete five-person varsity team to compete for placing.
Emery’s Erin Hurst was the top local finisher in the meet, placing third overall with a time of 19:33. Emily Broadbear finished in fourth and Zaharah Rossi came in sixth. Sadie Crompton rounded out the top ten for Carbon with a ninth-place finish.
The Spartans’ Chase Christiansen had the only top-ten finish from both Carbon and Emery, finishing with a time of 16:35, good for seventh overall. Ty Funk came in 11th and McKay Meccariello finished in 15th. Carbon’s best finish came when Drew Jones crossed the finish line in 17th with a time of 17:38. Trey Richardson finished right behind Jones in 18th.
Green River brought a host of middle school runners to the race, with Axel Angulano finishing in first place in the 1.5-mile race. Athletes from Mont Harmon’s cross country club also participated in the event. Grace Broadbear from Mont Harmon was the first girl to cross the finish line and finished eighth overall in the race.
Other Carbon competitors at the meet included Anthony Jones, Paul Bryner, Logan Engar, Kaden Kranendonk, Will Larsen, Kyle Quinton, Mckinnon Lyman, Donald Olsen, Hunter Mortensen, Jacob Jewkes, Gabe Vandyke, Joseph Keller, Dalton Latimer, Chad Larsen, Josh McCourt, Kanyon Beecher and Jordan Nielsen. On the girl’s team,. Emma Haddock, Jordyn Oman, Sarah Ohlwhiler, Nikki Kulow, Britlie Sharp and Sara Stromness competed.
Boy competitors for Emery included Tanyon Allred, Wyatt Cox, Daryl Guymon, McKoy Christiansen, Lance Chynoweth, Walker Woolsey, Lane Taylor, Travis Fehlberg, Nathan Urie, Parker Stilson, Zac World, Garret Stilson and Malone Moss. Lady Spartans that crossed the finish line were Tayrn Parkins, Riata Christiansen, Belle Bowers and Lexy Cox.
Carbon and Emery will once again face off against each other next week as both will participate in the North Sanpete Classic on Wednesday.
