The Carbon County employees of the month were announced on Wednesday evening at the Carbon County Commission meeting. The award was presented by Rose Barnes and Don Marrelli of the ambulance department. The employees of the month for March 2016 are EMTs Michael Montoya and Kami Olsen.
Marrelli spoke briefly about an incident that took place in December of last year. A significant automobile accident occurred that Montoya and Olsen both responded to. The family involved in the accident did not need hospital care, and informed the pair that they were on their way to a surprise visit to family in Texas. They had traveled all the way from Washington. Montoya and Olsen took the family to a local hotel.
When an automobile accident occurs with a car seat in the vehicle, the car seat is no longer legal to use. The family had a small child. Knowing their predicament, Montoya and Olsen contacted the health department and were able to acquire a brand new car seat for the family so that they were still able to travel. The two EMTs went above and beyond what was called for, Marrelli explained.
Commissioner Hopes thanked the employees, stating “I think this highlights not just the great employees, but the great people we have in our county.”
