Habitat for Humanity of Castle Country’s (HFHCC) A Brush With Kindness (ABWK) continues to work tirelessly and improve homes around Castle Country.
One of their latest projects was a home owned by locals Jim and Sharon Basso. The Basso’s had been treading lightly on their porches that were in dire need of reinforcement. They had also been dealing with a leak in the bottom of their door that had slowly, but surely, destroyed the floor beneath with wear and tear.
Not only did ABWK tackle these particular issues, they also replaced a large and poorly insulated window located in the kitchen. The project was a two-day ordeal, with the first day being conquered by construction manager Steve Kerr as well as ABWK intern Maggie Cochrane. On this day, the duo reinforced the two porches and replaced the aforementioned kitchen window. The deck boards on the porches were flipped over in order to save the Basso’s money and prevent continued warping.
The second day was handled by Cochrane and HFHCC’s AmeriCorps VISTA and former ABWK intern Katie Anderson. The porches were given a fresh coat of paint on this work day.
