The first Carbon County Commission meeting in August took place on Wednesday. During this meeting, a special presentation was given by a number of county employees that were representing the 7th Annual Mike Ballard Memorial Golf Tournament committee.
The Mike Ballard Memorial Golf Tournament is a charity event that was designed to annually assist a chosen individual or charitable organization. The individual is generally in crisis due to unforeseen catastrophic medical situations, whereas the charity must directly benefit the citizens of Carbon County.
Chosen this year was the Ronald McDonald House, who provides low or no-cost housing to families or individuals who are in need of lodging while they are staying near a loved one that is receiving critical health care in Salt Lake City, and its surrounding areas, hospital or facilities. During 2015, over 500 individuals from the Southeastern Utah area received services from the Ronald McDonald House.
Rose Barnes, committee member, spoke during the presentation. Barnes stated that the event has grown and continues to grow every year. She informed the commissioners that the committee makes a point to ask past recipients to pay it forward. Last year’s recipient, Ruth Eskelson, loved it so much, she requested continue to assist in any way she could.
Linda Ballard, Frank Ori and Barnes were pleased to present a check worth $18,030 to Ronald McDonald Events Manager Stephanie Stevens.
“This community is fantastic,” stated Stevens. “The support they give each other and the effort and energy that they put in… I’m in awe.”
