The first junior high school rodeo of the season brought points and prizes to many Emery Junior High Rodeo team members. The rodeo was held in Nephi and was sponsored by the Central Utah Jr. High Rodeo Team.
On Friday, Byron Christiansen and Kayson Jensen placed in the bareback riding as well as saddle bronc riding.Christiansen also was third in team roping with his partner Todd Sweat from South Summit. Christiansen also was third in ribbon roping with partner Braylie Shepherd from Central Utah. He placed second in the all-around competition on the first day.
On the second day, Saturday, Race Gordon and partner Andee Belliston won the ribbon roping and Christiansen was first in the bull riding. Christiansen also placed fifth in boys’ goats and third in the team roping with his partner Todd Sweat. Zeek Weber was fifth in the boys’ breakaway roping.
All those that placed will now be qualified for state competition later this year. They will continue gathering points at the following rodeos: Uintah Basin, Sevier and Southern Utah throughout the year culminating in Heber the end of May at Junior High State Finals.
