Seth Gordon Peterson appeared in front of Seventh District Court Judge Douglas Thomas, who was filling in for Judge George Harmond, on Monday morning regarding the double homicide that occurred in Hiawatha on Nov. 2.
Attorney David Allred represented Peterson, 25, while attorneys Gene Strait and Sean Brian represented the state of Utah. Judge Thomas informed the court that this case is required to have an appropriate council for sentencing. Judge Harmond is currently reviewing the council but selections have not yet been made.
Strait requested the ruling be set for Jan. 3. This request was made so that Peterson could receive a mental evaluation before ruling. Allred informed Judge Thomas that the state has agreed to the evaluations.
Judge Thomas formally set the hearing for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
