Recently, the Carbon High swim team traveled to the Tooele Invitational where the girls brought home a second-place trophy out of 14 teams.
The girls started out fearless in the 200-yard medley relay with a third-place finish by Megan Swasey, Sadie Crompton, Veronica Ibanez and Amanda Liu with at time of 2:05.66. The boys gave it their all with a tenth-place finish by Tyson Swasey, Josh McCourt, Rylan Chamberlain and Kinnion Lyman with a time of 2:00.
Emily Jespersen got a big sixth-place finish in the 200-yard free with a time of 2:31. Teammate Shannon Baker followed with a 14th-place finish, Taycie Davis swam hard but ended in 31st place. Chad Laursen represented the boys in the 20-yard free with a 15th-place achievement out of 54 swimmers.
Liu returned for a impressive third-place finish in the 200-yard IM. Megan Swasey followed with sixth place. Swasey dominated in the 200-yard IM, coming in tenth with a time of 2:26.
Carbon was well represented in the 50-yard free with Ashlin Baker, Jacee Richards, Michelle Bloechl and Elley Cowdell. Jordan Huber, Makayla Moynier and Zaharah Rossi, Sara Stromness, Katrina Behling and Jayden Nielsen, Lori McCourt, Vanessa Manual, Hannah Torgerson and Emma Haddock all finished and earned points for the team.
Several boys swam in the 50-yard free while Kinnion Lyman snagged 19th place. Other finishers included Josh McCourt, Real Gu, Dallen Twedell, Matthew Torres, Jerron Stead, Josh Rasmussen, Jacob Torres, Gavin Black and Sean Tiliman.
Ibanez butterflied her way to a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with comrade Sadie Crompton coming in sixth. Junior Rylan Chamberlain flew past opponents in the 100-yard butterfly for a 17th place achievement.
Liu dominated in the 100-yard free with a third-place finish with a time of 1:02. Other finishers included Kacee Barrett, Ashlin Baker, Jacee Richards, Michelle Bloechl, Katrina Behling, Jayden Nielsen, Makayla Moynier, Vanessa Manual and Hannah Torgerson.
Chamberlain came back in the 100-yard free for another 17th-place victory. Ibanez came out strong in the 500-yard free to receive a third-place accomplishment.
The girls’ 200-yard free relay team raced to a sixth-place finish with Sadie Crompton, Kacee Barrett, Emily Jespersen and Shannon Baker representing.
The boys relay took a close with a 11th place ending with Rylan Chamberlain, Kinnon Lyman, Josh McCourt and Tyson Swasey representing.
The girls came up big in the 100-yard back with Megan Swasey receiving fifth place, Shannon Baker 14th and Emily Jespersen 22nd.
Tyson Swasey was the lone Dino in the 100-yard back and came up with seventh-place finish for the Dinos. Senior Sadie Crompton breast stroked her way to a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:18.
The boys’ 100-yard breast performed well with Josh McCourt coming in 17th and Chad Laursen in 20th.
The girls’ victories continued in the 400-yard free relay with Carbon coming in fourth with Amanda Liu, Megan Swasey and Emily Jespersen getting the win. The boys signed off with a 20th place finish with Chad Laursen, Matthew Torres, Dallen Tweddell and Real Gu finishing.
The girls placed second has a team scoring 230 points, falling to Tooele High school with 302. The top 15 swimmers in each event received medals and ribbons.
