As the holidays come to an end, so does Carbon Christmas, the month-long effort to raise money for families in need this holiday season. With the funds, Carbon High’s student government purchases presents, pays bills and make a Christmas possible for local families.
The Carbon Christmas closing assembly was hosted Tuesday afternoon where students of Carbon witnessed various activities.
This year’s goal was $19,500 for the annual fundraising event, which members of the school surpassed, raising a grand total of $22,648.30. Students raised money through odd jobs and caroling as well as benefit nights and hat days. Thanks to organizations at the high school, student government members were able to bring many families joy this holiday season.
The students were welcomed by the school’s drumline playing Christmas music. During the assembly, choir students choirs sang “One Bright Star” and numbers were also performed by the cheer and drill teams.
As part of the fundraiser, students and teachers were able to nominate each other and, at the assembly, they had a chance to get pied in the face.
“You make a difference,” said Daphne Stockdale, the school’s student government advisor. “All the pennies and nickels make a difference. Just know, you really are helping people.”
Stockdale along with fellow teacher and advisor Troy Chillcott aid the Carbon Christmas effort by personally calling local families to see what student government can do to help them during the holidays. The duo was also a constant presence at organization meetings and Carbon Christmas events.
