Kyle Quinton scored more than 20 points for the fifth time this season, notching 22, to lead the Carbon Dinos over the Canyon View Falcons 70-65 Friday night in Price. The Dinos sit atop the Region 12 standings at 2-0. The team is currently on a three-game winning streak to boot.
Jamin Jensen began the scoring in the first quarter, hitting a three on Carbon’s first possession. Gage Daugherty nailed another on the following possession to help the Dinos to the quick 6-0 lead. The Falcons came right back with two threes of their own to tie the score. Brendan Palacios nailed the third Carbon three of the quarter at the 4:07 mark to help the home team to the 11-6 advantage. Neither team scored in the final four minutes of the quarter.
The Dinos enjoyed their first 10-point lead of the game on a buzzer-beating shot by Quinton heading into halftime. Quinton put back a Carbon miss as the halftime horn sounded.
Up by as many as 13 points in the third, Carbon saw Canyon View go on a 16-7 run, including back-to-back threes with under 30 seconds to go in the quarter, to cut the deficit to just four, 49-45, heading into the final quarter.
Both teams battled in the fourth as Canyon View answered every run by Carbon. The Falcons kept it close in the final three minutes by hitting timely three pointers. They had 13 in the game. Quinton hit one of two free throws with 8.2 seconds to help his team to the win.
Besides Quinton’s 22, Daugherty had 13 points, including three threes. Jamin Jensen and Ty Moynier both chipped in 10 apiece. As a team, the Dinos connected on eight three pointers.
Carbon (9-7, 2-0 Region 12) will host Richfield (5-7, 1-0 Region 12) on Wednesday. The game can be viewed live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
