Creekview Elementary hosted its Science Fair last week, an event which attracted nearly 120 student participants from across grade levels.
“It went really well,” said Elaine Taylor, the staff member charged with organizing the event. “We had a lot of participation.”
That participation came in the form of 75 fifth-graders as well as 43 fourth-graders and 16 second and third-graders to round and fill out the fair.
Projects were split into one of seven categories: Chemistry, Earth Science, Engineering, Physics, Behavioral, Biology and Astronomy.
Fourth-grade, first-place finishers were Mason Engar in chemistry, Preston Andrews in Earth science, Janey VanDyke in Engineering, Logan Anderson in Physics, Esqui Torres in Behavioral, Adison Bishop in Biology and Drake Chappell in Astronomy.
Fifth-graders who walked away with a first included Kortnie Jennings, Chemistry, CJ Smuin, Physics, Jewles Birk, Earth Science, Allison Wright, Behavioral, Shalako Gunter, Engineering and Cameron Jones, Biology.
Taylor said that, while she felt this year’s fair was a success, in future years the school plans to focus on helping students learn more and focus on the scientific method and true questioning.
Taylor also spoke of volunteers from the community who donated time and prizes to help make the fair a success.
