Bighorn sheep viewing event update

With little to no water in the Grassy Trail Creek located in Sunnyside, bighorn sheep have become more widely distributed throughout the area than originally expected. According to Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Outreach Officer Brent Stettler the absence of water means the sheep may be located as far up as the rodeo grounds.

This Saturday, the DWR will host its annual bighorn sheep viewing event in Sunnyside. Previously, the wildlife division advised the public to look for the event to take place near the fire station. With recent developments, the DWR recommends visitors to look for signs leading to the event.

“This week, some sheep have been sighted near the ambulance garage,” explained Stettler. “If the hot weather continues, the sheep will wait until it cools off in the evening before becoming active. This means that viewers may see more sheep later in the day.”

The viewing event will take place this Saturday, June 15 from 5-7 p.m. DWR officials will be on hand to answer any questions and will provide onlookers with spotting scopes and binoculars for closer viewing.

Despite warm weather and little water in the Sunnyside area, many bighorn sheep are expected to be seen during the weekend event.
