The Salt Lake Chamber presents awards to pro-business Legislators
The Salt Lake Chamber presented the Business Champion Awards to legislators on Wednesday who stood for the interests of Utah businesses during the 2019 General Legislative Session. The Salt Lake Chamber Board of Governors recognized the efforts of these lawmakers that morning at a breakfast in their honor.
77 lawmakers received the Business Champion Award for voting for the interests of the business community at least 80% of the time. The designation of Business Champion is directly tied to a legislator’s voting record on the Salt Lake Chamber’s “Priority Votes.” During the legislative session, the Chamber’s Board of Directors designates the top priorities of the business community as Priority Votes.
“Thanks to the legislature’s commitment to our state and the engagement of our business community, the Chamber was successful in advancing numerous pro-business policies this past session. We made significant strides to enhance the funding necessary to build a talented workforce, bring computer science to every classroom and address our looming housing affordability crisis,” said Derek Miller, president and CEO of the Salt Lake Chamber. “We greatly appreciate our Business Champions for their involvement, collaboration and fortitude.”
In addition to the Business Champion Awards, the Salt Lake Chamber honored Rep. Carl Albrecht as the 2019 Legislator of the Year. As a former CEO of a rural energy company and a long-time public servant, sitting on various boards and commissions from education to natural resources, Rep. Albrecht has a keen understanding of policy issues and their impact on rural Utah. During the 2019 Legislative Session, he passed a number of bills to improve economic development opportunities for rural communities and address the unique workforce challenges facing rural Utahns.
“I am honored to receive this award and appreciate the attention to rural issues from my fellow legislators and the Salt Lake Chamber. I look forward to continuing our work to improve economic development in Utah’s rural communities,” said Rep. Carl Albrecht.
