September is Suicide Prevention Awareness month. Utah has some of the highest rates in the nation. Carbon and Emery counties have some of the highest in the state. The community showed up to begin the process of raising awareness of this problem on Sept. 6 for a two mile walk on the Price River Parkway.
Over 50 people showed up to take part in the event. Before the walk several individuals spoke about the loss of family or friends to suicide or unexpected death. A survivor of a suicide attempt also stepped forward to speak from her heart about how the decision to commit suicide and how she is grateful to those who were able to help her live.
