Fourth and fifth grade students from Pinnacle Elementary received swim lessons last Thursday at the Desert Wave Pool. Each elementary student will participate in the learn to swim program this year.
According to Pinnacle Elementary principal Mark Stuckenschneider, the program is geared toward teaching young children basic water survival skills. “There are so many open bodies of water around the area that we feel it is important for the kids to know the basics of swimming,” explained Stuckenschneider. “Although these lessons are not one-on-one, we do feel that the children will be safer near water.”
The program began in honor of a Pinnacle student who drowned during the summer.
