Pinnacle and Green River Compete at Region 19 Championship

The Pinnacle Panthers and Green River Pirates traveled to Monticello for the Region Championship. Five teams competed, including the Panthers and Pirates, Monument Valley, Whitehorse and the host team Monticello.

Monticello had a great day, winning in the boy’s, girl’s and combined categories. In the girl’s division, Pinnacle placed in the second position, followed by Green River in third. For the boys, Green River placed second and Pinnacle landed at fourth.

Starting in the field portion of the meet, Jenilee Keener was dominant in her events for the Lady Pirates as well as Heather Kerr of Pinnacle. In Girl’s Discus, she claimed first with a distance of 97-0.0. Following her was Heather Kerr (82-5.5) finishing in the third spot. In the Girl’s Shot Put, Keener was in the top spot again with a distance of 31-7.5, followed by Kerr finishing in second place with a distance of 30-0.25.

The two would claim the top two spot again in Girl’s Javelin with Keener getting the gold with a distance of 104-0.0. Kerr (90-5.0) received the silver in the event. Kenner was followed by her teammate Madison Sasser (78-2.0) with the bronze and Lady Pirate Mattie Meadows (76-8.0) placing in the fourth spot.

In Boy’s Javelin, Green River’s Cristian Venzor brought home the gold with a distance of 122-0.0. He was followed by his teammate Gabriel Quintana (100-8.0) in fourth place. In Boy’s Shot Put, Levi Miller claimed the bronze for Pinnacle with a distance of 33-1.75, followed by his teammate Kyson Sayre (31-4.75) in the fifth spot.

In the 100m Dash, Heather Kerr claimed the second spot with a time of 15.93. Followed by Green River’s Mattie Meadows (16.38) placing fifth. On the boy’s side, Ryker Meadows of Green River placed third with a time of 12.64, followed by Pinnacle’s Diego Contreras (12.84) in the fifth spot. Contreras would also claim fourth in the 200m Dash with a time of 26.59.

In the Girl’s 800m Run, Pinnacles Maddison Sasser finished in the third spot in a time of 3:07.95. Sasser was followed by her teammate Kaydence Romero (3:26.61) in fourth. Keira Davis took on the 3200m Run, finishing third in 17:51.28 for the Lady Panthers.

In the Long Jump portion for the boys, Ryker Meadows would get the fourth-place finish with a distance of 17-5.5, followed by Panther, Diego Contreras (16-5.0) in fifth. Mattie Meadows would get the fourth-place finish for the girls, with a distance of 12-6.75.

In the Boy’s High Jump, three Pirates would place, with Ryker Meadows (5-2.0) getting the silver, Rolando Anguiano (5-0.0) earning the bronze and Antonio Macias (5-0.0) earning the fourth spot. The Green River boys would also win gold in the Sprint Medley Relay with a time of 4:24.74, finishing in .64 second ahead of the following team.

The athletes that have qualified for state will compete at the UHSAA State Championships happening at BYU on May 16 – 18.
